I am a political theorist and legal historian, specializing in the 20th and 21st century history of international criminal law and human rights. I teach classes on peace, conflict resolution, genocide prevention and human rights at the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University.

I am also a genocide prevention practitioner, and have worked around the world for over a decade. I direct the The Raphaël Lemkin Genocide Prevention Program at the Carter School.

I earned a PhD in Global Affairs, and an MA in English Literature, from Rutgers University in Newark, NJ. I did a year of PhD coursework in Sociology and Law at the University of Buenos Aires. I have undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Ancient & Mediterranean Civilizations (with Latin and Greek exams).
